I've been pretty fortunate - not too many injuries. However my IT Band (Iliotibial band) and achilles were sore last Sasturday after an 80 mile bike ride. I should have stretched and taken an ice bath, but I was too tired having been to a wedding the night before and getting up a 5am to do this 80mile ride. On Sunday someone talked me into doing a long run with them (Pete). By then my Achilles felt ok, but as soon as I started running, my IT Band was sore. Not having this issue before, I thought I would just keep running and let it loosen up. Well, it was sore the entire 12 mile run averaging a 7:30 pace. I took an ice bath afterward, but the damage was done.
So this week I kept testing it. On Tuesday I got on the treadmill and couldn't run 10 steps. On Thursday I managed 1/4 mile, but it was really painful. On Saturday I ran / walked a mile on the treadmill - it was sore, but I got through it and then rode 30 miles. After my bike ride, it felt pretty good. Today (Sunday) I rode 50+ miles, then ran a mile straight outside around the neighborhood. I had to run carefully, but the pain wasn't too bad and I ran it in 7:21 pace.
Next Sunday I have an Olympic distance Triathlon. I hope I recover in time. Wish I could be training for it.
