Too much time, not enough exercise...

It's kind of funny how having too much time makes it harder to workout. I've had the past 2 weeks off and have trained less than ever. Throughout the day I think I'll just get to it later, but later never comes becomes something else comes up that is more interesting. Next week I will start my day by doing some sort of workout before breakfast.

I got a new camera for Christmas - it should be small enough to bring with me on my workouts, so I hope to start adding some pictures to my blog.

Last week I was riding on a trail and saw a massive 12 point buck. I wish I had a camera as it stood there trying to figure out what to make of me for at least a full minute.
This picture is the tree in my front yard. It's interesting how you notice more things when you have a new camera in your pocket ; )

ITU World Championship in Holland

I was notified this week that I have been selected to represent the USA in my age group in the 2008 ITU Long Course Triathlon World Championship in Holland in August based on my Musselman finish. The course distances are listed in metric, but basically it is a 2.5 mile swim, a 75 mile bike and a 18.5 mile run. The swim is slightly longer than the Ironman swim, but the bike and run are about 70% of the ironman distance.

So I thought I would have the year off from the long distance races, but it is pretty hard to pass this up. Holland should be a good vacation too.

My body is still recovering and having added 15 pounds isn't helping my workouts much. But it is winter and low volume, slower, more relaxed training is good.

I'm kicking off a Triathlon special interest group in the bike club. We'll see how that goes.

Now that I can run again...

With the podiatrist giving me her blessing to run again, I've started building up the miles again.

It is hard to get out riding much this time of year, but there are virtually no days where running isn't a possibility.

Last week I logged about 35 run miles, with my longest run (8 miles) on Saturday. The plan was to run with the run club at 8am, then ride with the bike club at 9:30. No one showed for the run club (very unusual), so I just did my own thing. When I got home, I felt good enough to ride with the bike club.

Initially my legs felt pretty weak on the bike after running 8 miles, but eventually I started riding well again. A fellow racer happened to be riding and he and I pushed each other (and everyone else) pretty hard all morning.

Later in the afternoon I volunteered some time to help out with the Brians Run registration, and following my Sunday Run with Sena, I braved the cold and rain to man the water stop for the Brians Run race (good thing I showed up, because only the president of the Run club was there).
